Polypropylene (PP) worktop is a versatile thermoplastic polymer and a widely used plastic type worldwide. Polypropylene is preferred in many industrial and commercial applications due to its durability, chemical resistance, low cost and various physical properties. Here are some of the basic properties of polypropylene (PP):

1. Chemical Properties:

• Chemical Resistance: Polypropylene has good resistance to most acids, bases and solvents. Therefore, it is widely used in chemical transport pipes, storage tanks and industrial materials.

• Water Resistance: It is highly resistant to water, with low water absorption (approximately 0.01%).

• High pH Resistance: It is resistant to acidic and alkaline solutions.

2. Physical Properties:

• Density: Polypropylene has a density of approximately 0.90 g/cm³, making it lighter than many other plastics.

• Hardness: Polypropylene is a medium-hardness material and is generally classified as a medium-hardness polymer.

• Flexibility: It is not a highly flexible material. It usually has a more rigid, but not brittle structure.

• Thermal Properties:

o Melt temperature range: Polypropylene generally melts between 160-170 °C. This makes it a material resistant to heat treatment.

o Flame retardant property: Although polypropylene is a material that burns easily on its own, this property can be improved by adding flame retardant additives.

3. Mechanical Properties:

• Tensile Strength: Polypropylene generally has a tensile strength between 30-40 MPa. This indicates the maximum tensile strength that the material can withstand before breaking.

• Impact Resistance: Impact strength may decrease at low temperatures, but it shows quite good impact resistance at room temperature.

• Flexural Modulus: Flexural modulus (expansion/retraction ability) is around 1500-1800 MPa on average.

4. Electrical Properties:

• Insulation Property: Polypropylene has excellent electrical insulation properties. This makes it suitable for electrical applications (cable insulation, etc.).

• Dielectric Constant: Since the dielectric constant of polypropylene is low, it does not exhibit electrical conductivity.

5. Thermal Insulation:

• Thermal Conductivity: Polypropylene has low thermal conductivity, which makes it suitable for use in thermal insulation.
